You’ve found the blog of Ed Summers – avid solver of IT problems.
My professional career of 20 years includes cloud system architecture and engineering, network engineering, and network operations for data center and small branch networks – specializing in US Government clients. I’m currently engaged in cloud design, deployment, and migration as the latest shift in my skillset. I’m fully committed to broadening my skills in this area as I apply existing knowledge with an engineering mindset and ever-professional demeanor.
Behind this eager cloud architect lies a seasoned network engineer who combines strong fundamental knowledge with the desire to step outside the networking silo to solve problems. I’ve dedicated time on and off the job to research and understand the systems and applications that I serve. This along with a professional attitude has allowed me to ‘speak the language’ to a variety of audiences: network, systems, application, and non-technical, which has certainly helped build relationships if not progress my career. I design. I build. I troubleshoot. I help.
I volunteer time handling the blog and email announcements for the Roanoke InfoSec Exchange – a professional group dedicated to expanding knowledge of InfoSec professionals in the Roanoke, VA and surrounding region. Join us at a meeting – I’d be happy to meet you.
In my spare time I’ve grown quite fond of learning Python. Occasionally I’ll relax with the sweet music of C418 in a few hours of Minecraft. All of the above pairs great with an espresso and Biscoff.
Through this blog I hope to share my knowledge to help others grow, and document my experience to continue building a strong professional network. Enjoy the content and contact me if you find it helpful or have thoughts to add.
Listen. Learn. Forward. -Ed
